As depicted in our BILT model, leaders play a critical role in shaping good culture. Their actions and behaviours as the ‘perceived most powerful person’ within their context, either promotes or inhibits the shaping of good culture. No culture strategy will be successful without the development of an organisations leadership team.
In recognizing this, most organisations implement a Leadership Development Plan [LDP]. Typically, this involves taking leaders through a series of leadership modules over an extended period of time. We believe that a typical LDP lacks effectiveness due to three key reasons:
In order to develop leaders into leaders who shape culture, we have developed LeaderTRACK.
LeaderTRACK involves the following key steps:
LeaderTRACK Assessments are conducted prior to any developmental work and include ratings by a defined group of each leaders’ colleagues, line managers and team members. This ensures we have a clear sense of each leader’s current leadership effectiveness, the impact that they are having on the team they lead, their areas of strengths and their developmental needs.
The LeaderTRACK assessment rates leaders within the following leadership qualities which we deem critical to shaping and sustaining good culture; Authenticity, Collaboration, Communication, Empowerment, Engagement, Growth Mindset, Inclusivity, Performance, Psychological Safety, Recognition and Responsiveness.
Given our belief that each leader needs specific development, we leverage the assessment to design a development track for each leader. Each track includes modules which develops each leader based on the competencies which require the most attention, taking into account each leaders’ specific context. These modules may also include reading material or online video-based content determined by each leaders’ preferred learning style. Each leader will engage in six one on one coaching sessions with a an ICF or COMENSA accredited coach, ensuring a safe space to share and grow.
Additional coaching sessions which may include group sessions can be added in based on an organisations needs.
Following a defined period of time agreed upon Appletree will then rate each leader on the shifts that they have made through the development process. To do this we repeat the LeaderTRACK assessment, along with some additional questions which ensure shifts between each LeaderTRACK assessment are articulated. This ensures you get a clear indication of the following:
This process can be repeated for ongoing leadership development or tailored for up and coming leaders.
